Child Support Collection

Child support collection is the act of obtaining court-ordered child support from the non-custodial parents who are required to pay a monthly payment. This can happen in several different ways. For the majority of non-custodial parents, the money is taken directly from their wages and given to the custodial mother. In some situations, the non-custodial parents simply hand the money over to the custodial parent direclty. Some child support collection takes place by a third party, who makes a record of the payment and then disburses it to the custodial mother. An even smaller number of non-custodial parents make their payments directly to the court, and a tiny percentage of parents use other methods to make their child support payments. If non-custodial parents refuse to pay child support or default on their payments, custodial parents have the right to seek back child support collection services from the Office of Child Support Enforcement or the court.
