Child Support Collections

Individuals who are having a difficult time with child support collections have several avenues they can take to get help. They can hire a child support attorney, who will go before the judge and explain that the non-custodial parent is not making his or her child support payments. The court of law can then enforce the court-ordered child support in a number of ways. The individual can also get in touch with the Office of Child Support Enforcement, which can also enforce the court-order. The Office of Child Support Enforcement can usually be contacted through the local Department of Human Services. A few of the ways in which the court order is enforced is by the non-custodial's property being seized, their wages being garnished, winnings and income tax returns being seized, driver's licenses being suspended and even by having arrest warrants issued for their arrest. Child support payments are taken very seriously in a court of law and inviduals required to pay them should ensure that they are always paid. In a case where a non-custodial parent cannot pay, their attorney may be able to ask for a modification of the child support payments.
