Child Support Hearing

A child support hearing is a court hearing in which the judge will address child support issues, such as requiring a non-custodial parent to pay. Both parties are responsible for attending this hearing, and it is advisable to have a child support attorney to represent them. The judge will consider several factors before determining how much money the non-custodial parent must pay. These factors include the current financial status of the non-custodial parent, whether or not the non-custodial parent is already paying court-ordered child support to anyone outside of the current case, how many children are involved and more. The judge will then calculate how much the non-custodial parent must pay each month and write up a court order requiring him or her to do so. If the non-custodial parent does not pay this child support, he or she could be subject to jail time, fines, suspended driver's licenses and more. Individuals who must attend a child support hearing should consider hiring a child support attorney to represent them as well as inform them of their rights and options under the law.
