Child Support Rules

There are many child support rules for both the non-custodial parent and the custodial parent. The first and foremost rule for the non-custodial parent is that he or she pays the monthly child support payments as ordered by the court. If he or she neglects to do this, they could face an arrest warrant issued for them, wage garnishments, seizure of property or winnings and even have their driver's license suspended. The most important rule for the custodial parent is that the child support payment be used for the benefit of the children and what they need. This includes shelter, utilities, clothing, food, school supplies, medical care and things of that nature. If the non-custodial parent files a grievance because he or she feels as if the custodial parent is not using the child support for the benefit of the children, there may be an investigation. If an investigation occurs and the custodial parent is found to be misusing the funds, he or she could lose control of the child support payments, or may have to provide detailed receipts each month which show where the child support payments have gone.
