Not Paying Child Support

If individuals are caught not paying child support that has been ordered for them to pay by a court of law, they can face some very serious consequences. A non-custodial parent could have the child support payments taken directly from their wages before they even receive their paycheck from the employer. This is called wage garnishment. It is also possible in some states that the non-custodial parent's driver's license will be suspended if they fail to pay court-ordered child support payments. In extreme cases of not paying child support, non-custodial parents can have a warrant issued for their arrest and they could end up spending time in jail. It's very important that individuals stay up to date with their child support payments. If one is unable for some reason to pay the amount that they've been ordered to pay, they may be able to have their child support payments modified. It's important to speak to a child support attorney to ensure that one knows their rights and options under child support laws.
