Stop Child Support

For individuals who need to stop child support payments, there are procedures that must be followed. There are a few different reasons why non-custodial parents might need to stop child support payments, including the child in question becoming 'of age,' the loss of a job or other reason why the non-custodial parent does not have the money to make the payments, etc. A child support modification request must be filed with the court, and this is usually performed by the non-custodial parent's attorney. This file will request that the judge take a look at the new circumstances in the case and determine whether or not to stop child support payments. In the case of a child 'coming of age,' most of the time the payments will be stopped unless the child needs continued support because they're attending college, mentally handicapped, etc. Individuals who need to stop child support should consider speaking with an attorney to determine the best ways to do this as well as to prove to the court that it's the best idea for the current time.
