All children need two parents, whether they live together or not, and all children need emotional and financial support from both parents. Michigan's child support program works with parents to ensure that children receive the support they deserve.

Michigan’s child support program operates through the cooperative efforts of three agencies:

The Department of Human Services Office of Child Support Prosecuting attorneys in each county Friends of the court Each agency plays a critical role in the Michigan child support program. The following is an explanation of the agencies and their functions. DHS Office of Child Support DHS support specialists can assist you with:Locating a parent Voluntary paternity establishment A referral to establish a court order for paternity and/or support Referring an existing order for enforcement
Recommending action on an interstate case  Prosecuting Attorney Each county has a prosecuting attorney. The prosecuting attorney’s office can assist you with:Obtaining a court order to establish paternity Obtaining court orders for custody, support, and parenting time Locating a parent  For referral to a prosecuting attorney for child support services, contact the support specialist in your local DHS office.
