Child Support Papers

Child support papers are orders which require the non-custodial parent to pay a specific amount of money to a custodial parent. These papers are calculated by the judge, who takes several factors into account before determining the amount of child support which must be paid. This includes the number of children involved, the non-custodial parent's ability to pay and the amount of money he or she makes from their job, whether or not the children need special care such as medical care, and whether or not the non-custodial parent is already making court-ordered payments to any other individual. The amount is then required to be paid by the non-custodial parent each month or bi-weekly and refusal or failure to pay can result in serious legal consequences. For instance, the non-custodial parent may have their driver's license revoked, wages garnished, property seized, income tax returns intercepted and given to the custodial parent or even an arrest warrant issued. Individuals who must go to child support court should consider hiring an attorney to represent them.
